Headless Ubuntu 12.04 Server

I deploy headless Ubuntu 12.04 server configurations on a regular basis. One of the things that I ofttimes forget to create is modifying Grub to essay to kick every fourth dimension regardless of whether or non previous boots were successful.
If yous forget to create this, the server mightiness teach stuck at the Grub kick screen, forcing yous to connect a keyboard in addition to covert to teach it going again.

Thankfully Grub ii has made this a flake easier:

Log inwards to your server every bit rootage or purpose sudo,

$vim /etc/default/grub

Add the line:
GRUB_RECORDFAIL_TIMEOUT=10

Update the grub configuration:

$update-grub2

The timeout value is inwards seconds, I purpose ten seconds since that gives me ample fourth dimension to teach into recovery agency should it survive necessary.
